2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe
Well, there is nothing really new to build a sedan with four doors as a coupe. Audi, Mercedes and Porsche make it in the luxury segment and cavort Aston Martin and Maserati. Where, now only a question of taste, who would build the most beautiful? BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe with our absolute favorite. Despite its length of over 5 meters does this car almost delicate. Elongated and radiates a broad base from the 6 Series Gran Coupe is already in the state of its dynamism.
The inner workings of the Gran Coupe has the same charisma as the outer skin. Plenty of space on the three-seater rear bench, their backs are to be folded as required. Then, the trunk extends from 460 to 1,265 liters. Front is cut the sedan pleasantly tight, they must always remember, with all its genes to a coupe. Perfectly the materials of the BMW. Everything is perfectly coordinated with each other and who want individually.
Types of drive
Two engines are available at launch in June this year are available. The BMW 640i works of 235 kW (320 hp) Twin-turbo petrol engine, the 640D is the 230 kW (313 hp) turbodiesel payable. The standard eight-speed sport automatic shifts, the two six-cylinder engine with great composure. Nothing for the small purse so. Whereby, BMW splash out in the standard equipment is not allowed. The leather seats are electrically adjustable and heated. The street lights out bi-xenon headlights, rain sensor activates the windscreen wipers and dual zone climate control cools tempers.
The two six-cylinders joined in the early fall an eight-cylinder 650i named, as well as the xDrive all-wheels saying is ordered. 330 kW (450 hp) fuel this floor.
Equipment requirements
Really does not have much more to be purchased from the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe. A few tips are permitted. A very clear must is the Professional navigation system with Bluetooth. It includes probably the best service in an automobile: BMW ConnectedDrive. In order to protect the paint, it may also be SurroundView package.
Although Bi-Xenon provides good illumination, would be for us, LED headlights, the first choice. walk with this option on the table, including adaptive headlights. The Head-Up Display, of course, in full color.

Conclusion
The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe lives up to its dynamic appearance. No, more, it exceeds all expectations. It is a fantastic car with exceedingly frugal engines, likely much driving pleasure and outstanding workmanship.

2010 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe Cabriolet
PORSCHE 911 TURBO COUPE CABRIOLET

The solution of this task fell to the Porsche 911 Turbo to. What makes sense for two reasons: Firstly, the 500-hp 2 +2- seater in Finland not included, on the other, the penalty was recently reworked.
You believe the press release, the system variable wheel torque distribution between front and rear axle is now done more effectively than before. The term "tail spin" - as the default by the builder - to play the new top penalty no longer important, the driving behavior to be more balanced and predictable. Which it was to get to the bottom. And because this kind driving experiences attract just as pleasurable driving on snow and ice, and because it alone after all only half as much fun as a couple, we are on this cold winter day when the next snow showers is already in the air , broken up with two Porsche Turbo Gen Hockenheim - a coupe and a convertible.

The Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet is one of the most spectacular moment of convertibles. Porsches open version of the Turbo is very fast thanks to its 480 hp six-cylinder only 4 seconds to from zero to 100 km / h sprint. Who also opt for a Tiptronic S automatic transmission is another 0.2 seconds faster through the 100 km / h limit break.

Lap small track with exactly the same 1.11,9 minutes
But to confirm the Zeitenhatz hardly less cold, but now completely dry track, what the driving tests on ice and snow have already indicated: Who buys his Porsche Turbo as a convertible, must do so with impunity. Apart from a decent price for the more electrically operating roof, open-air fans take no disadvantages. The convertible is on the small track with 1.11,9 minutes just as fast as the coupe. Time for the summer.

2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Information Specification Modification Image Review 2013 hyundai genesis
According to Hyundai America CEO John Krafcik, 2011 marked the highest calendar-year sales ever for the Genesis coupe. The self-confessed factoid freak calmly references this fact from the passenger seat of a 2013 Genesis coupe as we skim across the Nevada Desert floor at speeds well over the century mark. Krafcik is busy peppering me with questions about the car—and other cars, and Apple, Sony, BlackBerry, and the current state of EPA regulations, among other topical concerns—and snapping photos when we roll over a cattle grate without drama; doing so in the pre-refresh Genesis coupe would have sent reverberations throughout the entire car. He smiles approvingly, then returns his attention to his BlackBerry and begins hammering out another series of messages. Note to Genesis coupe suspension engineers: Now may be the time to ask for a raise. We gave you a look at the Genesis’s revised fascia when it debuted at the Detroit show back in January, and we can now confirm our suspicion that the hood is an entirely new stamping, a costly proposition for a simple midlife revamp. Paintwork on the dozen or so examples we examined was flawless, and the Genesis looks light-years better—and bigger—in the flesh than in photographs. But the real news is the pair of significantly reworked engines residing under that fresh hood.

THE VERDICT
Considering the significant upgrades made to the 2013 Genesis Coupe, the price hike is understandable. The car looks better inside and out, the power upgrade is impressive, plus, in a nod to enthusiasts and in an effort to further grow the car’s following, driving dynamics have been improved. All these factors combine with the unique value packaging of Hyundai’s rear-drive sports car to make it not just a stand-out, but a stand-alone pick. True, in the entry-level range it doesn’t offer the purist appeal of the Scion FR-S, and in top-trim it’s still no G37, but in each comparison there are strong arguments to be made for the Hyundai, be it price, style or the fact that when compared to a car like the FR-S it has an edge when it comes to the level of sophistication.

2015 Audi TTS Coupe Competition Review Shes Got The Look
But after feasting my eyes upon a second-generation Audi TT sitting in my driveway – even in 90s yellow; nearly nine years after we first saw the second-generation TT and some 16 years since the first TT went on sale; with the third-generation TT already revealed and about to go on sale – how can my lips be silent?
| THE GOOD • It looks so good • Real cargo space • Delightfully compact • Plenty of power • It looks so good | THE BAD • Lots of dollars • Rides stiffly • Rides more stiffly in Sport mode • Cayman steers/handles more sweetly • Wait for the new one? |
This 2015 TTS Coupe Competition convinces me that the second TT is the most attractive of Audi’s three TT iterations. I grew to dearly love the first, but it could be faulted for looking the same coming and going. The forthcoming Mk3 TT seems somehow more formal, more serious, and less visually distinct from the (handsome) Volkswagen Scirocco.
This, however, is a visual stunner in both overall form and in detail.
From the bulging fenders to the artfully arched roof and the properly proportioned grille, it’s deserving of credit for its general aesthetic alone. But the aluminum-finished mirrors and rear wing struts are eye-catching details, the 19-inch wheels are conversation starters, the strakes that lead into the foglights bring further cohesion to the front end. Moreover, the design as a whole testifies to the fact that new cars don’t all look the same. And though it originally went on sale around the time Peyton last won a Super Bowl, the Mk2 Audi TT appears wonderfully current.
2015 AUDI TTS COUPE COMPETITION Base Price: $ $62,795 * As-Tested Price: $65,295 * Drive Type: all-wheel-drive Transmission: 6-speed dual-clutch automatic Engine: 2.0L DOHC 16-valve turbocharged four-cylinder Horsepower: 265 @ 6000 rpm Torque: 258 lb-ft @ 2500 rpm Curb Weight: 3263 pounds Length: 165.3 inches Width: 72.5 inches Height: 53.0 inches Wheelbase: 97.2 inches Tires: Dunlop Winter Sport Tire Size: 255/35R19 Passenger Volume: 2093 litres Cargo Volume: 371 litres Max. MPG fuel economy ratings from the Environmental Protection Agency. L/100km ratings from the Canadian Office of Energy Efficiencys new 5-cycle testing for MY2015 vehicles. |
You’ll use a key to start the car. There’s no backup camera or much of the on-alert safety gear (there are backup sensors but no blind spot monitoring, for instance) you now expect in $35K+ mainstream sedans, let alone premium brand cars costing around $65,000. The navigation screen, which works with a less than impressive version of Audi’s MMI, is a bite-sized 6.5 inches. The cabin certainly doesn’t rank among the quietest I’ve encountered in the last number of months, either.
None of this is unexpected for a car which traces its design back to the era of the sixth-generation Chevrolet Malibu. (Yeah, it’s that old.) But no matter how good the TTS looks outside, and no matter how high the material quality is inside, these specific elements recall a bygone era, and not in a nostalgic way.
What the outgoing TT lacks in modernity it ultimately makes up for by consistently providing a memorable experience. Granted, the TT, even in this special edition one-of-500 TTS Competition guise, is not among the purest driving sports cars. Yellow baseball stitching and a freaky rear wing can’t make it so. The steering lacks feedback. The brakes may be slightly overservoed in grand Audi tradition. The ride is ultra-stiff when sport mode is engaged and just plain busy when left in normal.
Yet with less than 3300 pounds to cart around, a quick-shifting dual-clutch 6-speed transmission, and all-wheel-drive traction, 265 horsepower is a far larger number than it initially sounds. The TTS Coupe accelerates to 60 mph in five seconds, shifting more intelligently and promptly the harder it’s driven. It’s a delightfully compact package, and with torque to spare, it darts through traffic like an 80s French hot hatch on nitrous.
The departing TTS starts at $62,795, about $9000 more than the base TT. Our test car, supplied by Audi Canada, rang in at CAD $65,295, or about $3900 more than the Chevrolet Corvette.
But the Corvette chases a different market, right? Sure, in the sense that the Corvette is intended for a buyer who still exists.

Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche combined for more than 40,000 TT, Z4, SLK, and Boxster U.S. sales in 2003 but only 15,000 TT, Z4, SLK, Boxster, and Caymans last year. While the Corvette was roundly outsold by the aforementioned quartet in 2003, Chevrolet sold 34,839 Corvettes in 2014.
Corvette vs. TT? Hey, if I’m the self-appointed final arbiter on the subject of Audi TT styling, shouldn’t I also be the one to decide which car to buy when all 500 global copies of the Coupe Competition are snatched up?

AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine a byword for thrilling driving dynamics
The uprated AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine generating a power output of 464 kW (631 hp) and 635 Newton metres of torque is a byword for thrilling driving dynamics, making the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series the most powerful AMG high-performance automobile with a combustion engine at present. Only the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive with a maximum output of 552 kW comes with greater power reserves.
The SLS AMG Coupé Black Series accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. The top speed stands at 315 km/h. The additional 44 kW (60 hp) of power in comparison to the 420 kW (571 hp) offered by the SLS AMG has been achieved by the following measures:
- Increase in maximum engine speed from 7200 to 8000 rpm
- Fully revised high-speed valve train with modified camshafts, adapted cam geometry and optimised bucket tappets featuring a special coating which is otherwise exclusive to racing vehicles
- Modification of the intake air ducting: derestriction and adaptation to the new maximum engine speed
- Adaptation of the engine application and increase in peak pressure
The engineers at Mercedes-AMG have further optimised the crank assembly in the interests of optimum stability in tough racing use. The measures carried out here include modified oil bores in the crankshaft, new crankshaft bearings, a new oil pump and high-strength screwed connections for the conrods. The entire water and oil cooling system for the engine and transmission has also undergone further optimisation. The AMG V8 engine in the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series is additionally provided with a special support system. A gas-filled strut braces the eight-cylinder engine on the body, effectively eliminating undesired load change reactions in highly dynamic driving on the race track. The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine is hand-built at the AMG hand-finishing section in Affalterbach, according to the philosophy "one man, one engine". This hand-made quality is confirmed by the black AMG engine badge bearing the responsible engine fitters signature which is a hallmark of the Black Series models.
The key data at a glance:
SLS AMG Coupé Black Series | |
Displacement | 6208 cc |
Bore x stroke | 102.2 x 94.6 mm |
Compression ratio | 11.3 : 1 |
Output | 464 kW (631 hp) at 7400 rpm |
Max. torque | 635 Nm at 5500 rpm |
Maximum engine speed | 8000 rpm |
Engine weight (dry) | 205 kg |
Fuel consumption, NEDC combined | 13.7 l/100 km |
CO2 emissions | 321 g/km |
Efficiency class | G |

Top speed | 315 km/h |
The eight-cylinder naturally aspirated engine installed as a front mid-engine behind the front axle boasts racing car-style response and livelier than ever revving ability. The powerful AMG V8 engines race track aspirations are also apparent in its sound: the newly designed AMG sports exhaust system, produced in titanium for the first time, features distinctive centre and rear mufflers which provide for a more powerful and even more striking engine sound. The switch from steel to titanium has spawned substantial weight savings: at just under 17 kilograms, the new AMG sports exhaust system is around 13 kilograms lighter than its predecessor. The new system features the performance-enhancing fan-type exhaust pipes which have been in use to date.
Systematic application of the AMG Lightweight Performance strategy
Lightweight at its core: with a kerb weight of 1550 kilograms (DIN), the new SLS AMG Coupé Black Series is not only 70 kilograms lighter than the SLS AMG, but also attains the best power/weight ratio of all AMG Black Series vehicles to date by far. The figure of 2.45 kg/hp will also bear up to comparison in the super sports car scene. Such a ratio is made possible by systematic application of the "AMG Lightweight Performance" strategy. Numerous body elements, such as the bonnet, the rear panel behind the AMG sports bucket seats, the diagonal braces on the underbody and the torque tube between engine and transmission consist entirely of the motorsport material carbon fibre (carbon fibre-reinforced plastic). In contrast to its 26.6-kilogram counterpart with sand-cast aluminium housing, the carbon-fibre torque tube weighs only 13.3 kilograms. As previously, power transmission between the engine and the dual clutch transmission (transaxle principle) which is flange-mounted on the rear axle is effected by means of a carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CRP) drive shaft weighing only 4.7 kilograms. A number of parts on the aluminium spaceframe have also been replaced by CRP components. A lithium-ion battery which is used in place of the conventional starter battery saves a further eight kilograms.
Dual clutch transmission for even more emotional dynamism
The overall power transmission system is also a major contributory factor to the outstanding driving dynamics of the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission is installed ten millimetres lower in order to achieve a lower centre of gravity for the vehicle and is braced against the body by gas-filled struts in order to avoid stress cycles. The dual clutch transmission features four driving modes (C, S, S+ and M). "Sport plus" and "Manual" in particular provide for markedly sportier performance than with the SLS AMG and SLS AMG GT models. In addition to an increase in shifting speed, the reduced response time to shift commands from the driver and the shifting hardness provide for pure dynamism.
An even more thrilling feature is the automatic double-declutching function during downshifting: the throttle blips when shifting gear are more pronounced and more strikingly audible than ever, due to the AMG titanium sports exhaust system. There is also a new temporary M mode. In C, S or S+ mode, this enables the driver to activate manual mode without having to remove a hand from the steering wheel, by pressing the "up" or "down" shift paddle once. In temporary M mode the driver experiences the dynamism and performance of gear-shifting in manual mode in all of the automatic driving programmes, with automatic up- and down-shifting into the bargain. This allows the driver to devote his full attention to the vehicles impressive performance.
New, electronic AMG rear-axle differential lock
A newly developed, electronically controlled AMG rear-axle differential lock with a shorter rear-axle ratio replaces the mechanical variant; it is integrated in the compact transmission housing. This system operates with a variable locking effect in acceleration and deceleration mode; in addition, the electronics respond more sensitively than to date, enabling excellent traction for the driven wheels at all friction levels. The electronic AMG rear-axle differential lock also benefits driving safety: in slaloms or when changing lane at high speeds the system has a stabilising effect, as it is able to attenuate the vehicles yaw rate around its vertical axis. The standard-fit 3-stage ESP® system featuring the functions "ESP ON", "ESP SPORT Handling Mode" and "ESP OFF" is precision-tuned to the electronic AMG rear-axle differential lock. The same applies to the RACE START function, which provides for perfect traction when accelerating from a standing start in conjunction with the electronic differential lock.
AMG RIDE CONTROL performance suspension and sports tyres
The chassis and suspension of the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series are also new. The basic layout with double wishbones all-round in aluminium remains unchanged, but barely a component has gone untouched in the interests of much enhanced race track performance.
The new developments in detail:
- AMG RIDE CONTROL performance suspension with tauter basic tuning and electronically controlled two-stage damping (Sport, Sport +) for individual adjustment to the preferred personal driving style
- Coil-over spring retainers to enable adjustment of wheel loads for personal race track set-ups
- Elastokinematics 50 / 42% more rigid (front/rear axle) for greater stability in fast double bends
- Track width increased by 20 / 24 millimetres (front/rear axle) for added grip in fast bends
- New wheel carriers on front axle and new front stabiliser tuning for added grip, reduced roll angle in fast cornering
- AMG 10-spoke light-alloy wheels, in particularly light forged design with optimised strength, painted matt black with high-sheen finish, dimensions: 10x19 at fron; 12x20 at rear. Weight saving: 4.0 kilograms
- Newly developed Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 sports tyres. Dimensions 275/35 R 19 at front and 325/30 R 20 at rear, for added grip and sporty cornering limit
- AMG speed-sensitive steering with newly defined power steering characteristic for optimum steering precision and outstanding control of the vehicle
- AMG carbon-fibre exterior mirror
- AMG carbon-fibre engine cover
- AMG Interior Carbon-Fibre package
- AMG infotainment system (incl. COMAND APS, AMG Performance Media and backup camera)
- Media Interface
- The market launch of the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series will begin in June 2013.
AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system as standard
The brake system of the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series boasts excellent deceleration performance and outstanding stability. The AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system comes as standard. The ceramic brake discs measuring 402 x 39 millimetres at the front and 360 x 32 millimetres at the rear feature increased hardness for enhanced thermal stability, accompanied by a weight reduction of around 40 percent. As a result of the reduced unsprung masses, they optimise both comfort and grip. The reduced rotating masses on the front axle provide for more direct steering response. Weight savings with the AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system compared to a conventional steel/aluminium brake system: 16 kilograms.Design inspired by the SLS AMG GT3 customer sport racing car
The design of the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series derives a special fascination from its similarity to the SLS AMG GT3 customer sport racing car. The gull-wing racing car developed in accordance with FIA GT3 rules has quickly become established as a serious contender among the super sports car elite. In the 2012 motorsport season the SLS AMG GT3 is competing in more than 15 series on four continents. The triple victory in the 24-hour Dubai race in January 2012, three driver and team titles in the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT Masters and the FIA GT3 World Championship along with numerous places on the podium at various short-distance, 4- and 6-hour races demonstrate the SLS AMG GT3s sporty performance in impressive style. To date, the car has notched up 37 victories in the 2012 season (as per 28 October 2012).Wide flared wings with an added width of 13 mm (front) and 26 mm (rear) on each side create the necessary space for the 275 mm and 325 mm sports tyres. Darkened headlamps and black surrounds for the rear lights provide the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series with a muscular and aggressive look. The vehicles aerodynamic balance is optimised by the front apron and rear apron with diffusor along with side sill panels in Black Series-specific design featuring carbon fibre-reinforced plastic front splitter, carbon inserts in the side sills and the rear apron made of carbon fibre. The enlarged air intakes with carbon-fibre flics additionally ensure an optimum air inflow into the cooling modules at the front.
As on the SLS AMG GT3, the carbon-fibre bonnet features a central air outlet. Apart from effectively discharging the engine heat, this outlet also increases downforce at the front axle and improves the Cd value. The wing-like cross-fin and the star recess in the radiator grille are finished in high-gloss black to match the exterior mirrors and the fins on the bonnet. The carbon-fibre insert on the sides with air outlet and a black fin is also reminiscent of the GT3; this feature also helps to reduce the temperature level in the engine compartment. The upshot is maximum stability, even in tough race track use.
Matt black AMG forged wheels in Black Series-specific design
A striking feature on the sides is the attractive integration of the side skirts, which combine with the side feature line in appealing fashion. The carbon elements fitted along the bottom at the sides continue the line of the carbon-fibre front splitter along to the rear. AMG forged wheels in a series-specific 10-spoke design, painted in matt black with a high sheen finish, provide glimpses of the AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system. AMG forged wheels in matt black with high-sheen rim flange are alternatively available. The rear of the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series presents a brawny appearance on a par with that of the front end. The wide wings and the striking rear diffusor are the predominant features here. The diffusor extends beyond the profile of the rear apron and produces additional downforce at the rear axle. This results in greater driving stability at high speeds. Visible air openings behind black grilles serve to control the dischrage of hot air in the area of the AMG titanium sports exhaust system. The two sets of twin chrome tailpipes with a square cross-section provide a visual demonstration of the gull-wing super sports cars power and dynamism – an impression that is backed up by a corresponding sound. The exclusive AMG logo with contrasting Black Series lettering in black adds a discreet yet striking touch at the top right of the boot lid.
AMG Aerodynamics package with carbon-fibre components
The SLS AMG Coupé Black Series can be upgraded with the optional AMG Aerodynamics package. This package features a fixed, adjustable carbon-fibre rear aerofoil in the style of the SLS AMG GT3 in place of the standard-fit aerofoil which extends automatically at speeds of over 120 km/h. The rear aerofoil is braced by aluminium elements on a special insert on the boot lid and provides for even greater negative lift force on the rear axle – not least of all as a result of the Gurney flap, named after its inventor, Dan Gurney, a former racing driver, designer and team owner. This eight millimetre-high spoiler lip fitted to the rear aerofoil at an angle of 90 degrees results in a further increase in downforce without significantly increasing drag. The rear aerofoil is complemented by additional carbon-fibre flics on the front apron which further reduce downforce at the front axle, as opposed to the more inward-lying standard-fit carbon-fibre flics which serve to optimise the inflow of air into the cooling modules. The optionally available expressive colour AMG solar beam is exclusive to the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series. Six other exterior paint finishes from the SLS AMG range are available, including the matt paint designo magno alanite grey.
Sporty, functional interior exuding high quality
A functional, sporty racing-car atmosphere is prevalent inside the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series, with high-quality materials demonstrating precision workmanship and exquisitely designed details. There is a choice of two colour variants: Alcantara® black or Alcantara® black/red. With the two-tone variant, the door centre panels and the applications on the centre console and above the glove compartment are finished in red. The AMG Performance steering wheel with flattened bottom rim section features Alcantara® all round for a good grip. In the top section the steering wheel features a sporty red 12 oclock marking. The real metal bezel features a high-gloss black paint finish to match the high-gloss black surrounds of the air vents. A particularly high-quality and exclusive Black Series detail is the so-called "3D seam" which runs horizontally along the dashboard: a fine Alcantara® strip in anthracite features across the entire width of the leather covering. Red contrasting stitching in the leather lend an accomplished finish to the 3D seam, underscoring the hand-crafted character. The combination of designo leather and Alcantara® features throughout the interior – on the bottom section of the dashboard, for example, on the door centre panels and on the AMG sports bucket seats, whose centre sections are covered with Alcantara®. Embossed AMG emblems on the head restraints are further exclusive eye-catchers. In addition to providing first-class lateral support at high cornering speeds, the AMG sports bucket seats are also 15 kilograms lighter than the standard AMG sports seats.
The absence of the COMAND APS multimedia system reduces the vehicles weight by an additional six kilograms as a further demonstration of the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series uncompromisingly purist character. In place of the screen between the air vents, a carbon-fibre trim element exudes an authentic racing atmosphere. COMAND APS is optionally available ex-factory. The vehicles occupants will also discover the motorsport material carbon fibre on the entire centre console with the AMG DRIVE UNIT. Bold highlights are added by red seat belts and red contrasting stitching on the AMG sports bucket seats, the centre console, the upper and lower section of the dashboard and the door panelling. The floor mats similarly feature red edging.
Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround sound system
A highlight among the optional equipment and appointments is the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround sound system, developed by Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG together with renowned Danish audio specialist Bang & Olufsen. The Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround sound system with Dolby Digital 5.1 enables an exclusive music experience of the very highest standard. This is made possible by a 1000 W amplifier and 11 loudspeakers in conjunction with precise distribution of the music signals by the sound processor according to the selectable seat positions – driver, co-driver or central. The DSP digital sound processor additionally enables the user to switch between the high-end studio sound ("Reference") and a surround sound option. All functions are controlled via COMAND APS (optional item) in a special Bang & Olufsen menu. The illuminated 50 W lens tweeters are a special highlight on the dashboard. The 250 W subwoofer is accommodated in the rear shelf. High-quality loudspeaker covers sporting the Bang & Olufsen logo indicate the high-end systems exclusive character.(Mercedes-Benz Press Release)
2016 Cadillac ATS V Coupe
Cadillac today introduced the 2016 ATS-V, expanding the acclaimed ATS product range and elevating the brand’s elite high-performance V-Series to its next generation.
Available in sedan and coupe forms, the first-ever ATS-V will introduce class-leading twin-turbocharged power and a comprehensive suite of design and performance systems when production begins in spring 2015.
Since its inception in 2004, Cadillac’s V-Series has driven remarkable power and performance capability into the brand’s growing luxury car range. Building on the strengths of the award-winning ATS product line, the V-Series adds impressive track capability to what was already the lightest and most agile-driving car in the luxury compact class. The result is a dual-purpose luxury performer – a car with true track capability right from the factory that is also a sophisticated luxury car on the road.
“Cadillac’s V-Series is the best example of Cadillac’s emerging product substance – and the purest expression of the passion at the core of the brand,” said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac President.
The ATS-V arrives next spring, powered by the first-ever twin-turbocharged engine in a V-Series. Rated at an estimated 455 horsepower (339 kW) and 445 lb-ft of torque (603 Nm), the engine is the segment’s highest-output six-cylinder and enables 0-60 performance in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of more than 185 mph. It is backed by a six-speed manual – with Active Rev Match, no-lift shifting and launch control – or a paddle-shift eight-speed automatic transmission featuring launch control and Performance Algorithm Shift.
The Cadillac Twin Turbo engine supports comprehensively redesigned chassis, suspension and drivetrain systems developed to make the ATS-V one of the most agile, responsive and confident luxury performance cars on the market. Key performance technologies include:
- Brembo high-performance brake system developed to provide durability, consistency and the capability for track-day performance straight from the factory
- Third-generation Magnetic Ride Control, which delivers 40 percent faster damping response
- Integrated chassis controls that provide balanced performance for touring and the track, including class-exclusive Performance Traction Management
- Structural stiffness increased by 25 percent for higher cornering loads
- Driver-selectable driving modes for touring, sport and track
- Tri-compound tires offering excellent grip with extended tire wear
- Available downforce-generating track aerodynamics package
- Functional exterior design for powertrain and drivetrain cooling, as well as aerodynamic performance
- An interior with high-performance seats and ergonomics focused on the driver’s interfaces with key features for performance driving.
“As the smallest and lightest V-Series ever, the ATS-V forges a great connection with the driver, with exceptional nimbleness and responsiveness,” said David Leone, Cadillac Executive Chief Engineer. “It’s adaptable to the driver’s preferences, with every selectable mode developed to deliver the best performance for all types of driving scenarios, including the track.”
A Performance Data Recorder onboard the ATS-V allows drivers to record high-definition video, with data overlays, of their driving experiences on and off the track, enabling sharing on social media.
First twin-turbocharged V-Series
With a more powerful iteration of Cadillac’s Twin Turbo 3.6L V-6, the ATS-V represents the first twin-turbo powertrain in the history of the V-Series lineup. Exclusive features for the ATS-V version of the Twin Turbo are designed to make power faster and sustain it longer. Highlights include:
- Turbochargers with low-inertia titanium-aluminide turbines and vacuum-actuated wastegates for more responsive torque production
- Compressors matched for peak efficiency at peak power levels, for optimal track performance
- Patent-pending low-volume charge-cooling system that optimizes packaging efficiency and maximizes boost pressure
- Lightweight titanium connecting rods that reduce inertia of the rotating assembly, complementing the quick-spooling turbochargers.
The Cadillac Twin Turbo also features a high-performance lubrication system designed to maintain optimal oil pressure and ventilation during high-lateral driving maneuvers typically encountered on a track.
Stronger foundation and track-honed driving experience
The underlying ATS structure is highly mass optimized and designed to meet higher performance requirements, with enhancements to the V-Series developed to respond to cornering and torque loads that go significantly beyond the levels experienced by the non-V models.
The new elements include:
- Unique shock tower-to-plenum brace
- Strengthened rocker bulkhead
- Stronger rear cradle-to-rocker braces
- A unique aluminum shear panel at the front of the chassis
- V-braces for the engine compartment.
The result is 25-percent greater structural stiffness than non-V models, which contributes to more precise handling and more direct steering responsiveness.
“The ATS-V feels like it was machined from billet steel,” said Tony Roma, chief engineer. “Along with supporting the higher performance capability of the car, the enhanced structure conveys confidence to the driver through a greater feeling of solidity and sharper, more precise responsiveness.”
With the stronger body structure – and more than a decade of V-Series production models and the CTS-V racing program experience under their belts – engineers tuned the ATS-V to deliver greater body motion control for a more agile feel, while maintaining excellent ride quality.
“The result is class-leading capability on the highway or track, balanced with luxury and refinement,” said Roma. “In fact, the car is ready for the track right off the showroom floor, with no special modifications required.”
A key component of the car’s dual-purpose performance are Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires developed specifically for the ATS-V. They feature a tri-compound tread that delivers excellent grip in performance driving situations, but delivers excellent ride quality characteristics and extended tread wear.
Also, the V-Series models share the same 109.3-inch (2,775 mm) wheelbase as other ATS coupe and sedan models, but feature wider front and rear footprints that enhance grip, reduce body motion in turns and contribute to more direct-feeling steering.
Additional contributors to the ATS-V’s dual-mode driving experience include:
- A revised multi-link double-pivot MacPherson-strut front suspension delivers a quicker response and increased lateral control, incorporating new ride and handling links, where traditional elastomeric bushings are replaced with zero-compliance cross-axis ball joints, higher-rate springs and a stiffer stabilizer bar – for 50 percent greater roll stiffness
- The ZF Steering Systems Servotronic II variable-ratio electric power steering gear, with increased system stiffness offering an improved feeling of precision and greater driver feedback
- Cadillac’s five-link rear suspension features reduced roll center migration, stronger lateral control and effective anti-squat geometry, complementing the front suspension with greater body motion control. Contributing components include stiffer bushings, new cradle mounts, higher-rate springs and a stiffer stabilizer bar
- A standard electronic limited-slip differential supports optimal traction and enables maximum corner exit acceleration
- Larger prop shafts and greater half-shaft asymmetry (stiffer driver’s side shaft) mitigate power hop during acceleration
- A Brembo high-performance brake system provides durability, consistency and the capability for track-day performance. The system includes 14.5-inch-diameter (370 mm) front rotors with staggered six-piston calipers and 13.3-inch-diamter (339 mm) rear rotors with four-piston calipers.
The ATS-V also features third-generation Magnetic Ride Control and Performance Traction Management. Five driver-selectable settings include the segment’s only competition-level settings for stability and traction control.
Magnetic Ride Control “reads” the road a thousand times per second, sending data to magneto-rheological fluid-filled dampers that can independently control the damping characteristics of all four dampers. Third-generation improvements enable 40-percent faster damping response. In fact, at 60 mph, the third-generation magnetic ride control system calculates the optimal damping force for every inch of the road.
Functional design
Almost every exterior panel on the ATS-V is unique, from the fascias and fenders, to the hood, rear spoiler and rocker moldings – and every one was designed to support the car’s capability.
“All of the design elements have a purpose,” said Andrew Smith, executive director, Cadillac Global Design. “They contribute to lift reduction, enhanced cooling, reduced mass or all of the above.”
The unique elements include:
- A lightweight carbon fiber hood features an air-extracting vent that not only pulls hot air out of the engine compartment, but helps reduce lift at speed by channeling air pulled through the radiator out and over the top of car rather than allowing trapped air to exit under the car
- Unique front and rear fascias provide optimal aero performance, with larger grille openings in the front fascia to feed more air to the new twin-turbocharged engine. Even the mesh pattern of the signature grille openings is enlarged to allow more air into the radiator and multiple heat exchangers
- A front splitter enhances handling by forcing air to push down on the front of the car rather than flow under it, where it can cause lift
- Wider fenders to accommodate 18 x 9-inch front wheels and 18 x 9.5-inch rear wheels that are wrapped with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires
- The aluminum wheels, unique to the V-Series, are constructed of a low-mass forging that helps reduce un-sprung weight for greater agility and a more direct feel to steering inputs
- The rocker moldings and rear spoiler are aero-optimized.
Available Carbon Fiber and Track packages take aero performance and mass optimization to higher levels. The Carbon Fiber package includes a more aggressive front splitter, hood vent trim and rear diffuser, along with composite rocker extensions and a taller, body-color rear spoiler. The Track package includes the components of the Carbon Fiber package, plus the Performance Data Recorder and a low-mass battery. It also deletes the standard floor mats and tire inflator kit to save weight.
“V-Series is the emotive core of the Cadillac brand and the apex of the Art and Science design philosophy,” said Smith. “A car offering a bold sense of arrival, serious performance, seamless integration of technology, and precision craftsmanship. The exposed carbon fiber components, for example, are book-matched on the centerline for a more precise, tailored appearance.”
Also, the lightweight forged aluminum wheels and brake calipers are offered in three finishes, allowing owners to personalize the presence of the ATS-V.
Performance-focused cabin
The aura of track-inspired precision carries over to the interior, where the design and relationship of key components are aimed squarely at performance-driving ergonomics.
“With the performance the new ATS-V is capable of delivering, the interior needs to be as functional as the other vehicles systems,” said Smith. “All of the contact points – the steering wheel, seats, shifter and pedals – are designed to make performance driving experiences direct and intuitive.”
New, available 16-way-adjustable RECARO performance front seats are the lynchpins for the driving experience, with aggressive, adjustable bolsters that help hold the driver and front passenger in place during high-load cornering. They’ve also got a luxury-performance feel, trimmed in Mulan leather with sueded microfiber inserts and seatbacks.
The rest of the interior features Cadillac’s handcrafted cut-and-sew elements, with decorative stitching and authentic materials, including carbon fiber. Three interior color combinations are offered: Jet Black, Jet Black with Saffron accents and Light Platinum with Jet Black accents.
The ATS-V also features a unique version of the 5.7-inch, three-window instrument panel cluster display, with V-Series graphics and distinctive gauge readouts. It is also equipped with the latest connectivity technologies from Cadillac, including:
- CUE with Bluetooth connectivity with natural voice recognition
- Text-to-voice that converts incoming text messages to speech and reads them over the audio system speakers
- USB, auxiliary and SD memory card ports
- OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.
The Performance Data Recorder is controlled via CUE’s color touch screen and recordings can be reviewed on the screen when the vehicle is parked.

2016 Mercedes Benz GLE 450 AMG 4Matic Coupe Road And Interior Trailer
Mercedes-Benz is combining two classes of vehicle – each with its own distinct style – to make a new model, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé. The sporty nature of a coupé dominates, imbued with the striking characteristics of a robust SUV. In addition to convincing on-road vehicle dynamics, the GLE Coupé looks impressive as well. With its flowing side contour, elongated and low greenhouse, striking radiator grille with central chrome louvre and rear end design, the GLE Coupé cites styling features typical of particularly sporty Mercedes-Benz models.
At the premiere the GLE Coupé will be available as a diesel or petrol model with an output range of between 190 kW (258 hp) and 270 kW (367 hp). The top-of-the-range model GLE 450 AMG, the first representative of a new Mercedes-AMG product line – the AMG sports models – is particularly attractive. In addition to the generous amount of standard equipment, the DYNAMIC SELECT dynamic handling control system, the Sports Direct-Steer system and the driver assistance systems typical of the brand, the GLE 450 AMG always comes with the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive."Our GLE Coupé combines typical coupé attributes, such as sportiness, dynamism and agility, with the confident presence, versatility and robustness of an SUV", says Prof. Dr Thomas Weber, Board Member responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, in characterising the latest member of the Mercedes-Benz model family. The GLE Coupé is the new addition to the successful portfolio of Mercedes-Benz coupés. Alongside the classic, two-door C, E and S-Class models and the four-door CLS and CLA-Class coupés, the new coupé displays a highly individual interpretation of the physiognomy and light-footed approach typical of this family of vehicles.
"For Mercedes-Benz, the GLE Coupé is the trailblazer for a versatile vehicle class. It will enable us to win new customers for our brand", says Ola Källenius, Member of the Divisional Board of Mercedes-Benz Cars responsible for Marketing & Sales, commenting on the new model joining the product portfolio.
DYNAMIC SELECT dynamic handling control system:
highly variable – from racy and sporty to poised and comfortable
The GLE Coupé feels like a true sports coupé right from the word go. Despite the similarity to an SUV with its raised seating position and an all-round view that is expansive for a coupé, the occupants are led to believe that they are in sports rather than off-road mode. The sound is reminiscent of powerful sports cars and, combined with the spontaneous and direct response to all commands, is guaranteed to get your pulse racing. On the other hand, it can also create a superior feeling of calm, coupled with unshakeably serene driving dynamics. These two different worlds can normally only be experienced in two separate vehicles – an agile, thoroughbred sports coupé and an easy-going, comfortable SUV. But the new GLE Coupé is different: DYNAMIC SELECT enables a wide spread in the driving dynamics and combines these diametrical worlds of experience in a single vehicle – an automobile premiere. GLE 450 AMG – the first AMG sports model
The balancing act between extremely sporty yet still comfortable has been mastered especially well in the GLE 450 AMG. As the first AMG sports model, the V6 top-of-the-range GLE Coupé enables an attractive entry to the world of the sports car and performance brand.
"The GLE 450 AMG Coupé is our first sports model, and further highly emotional and performance-oriented models will follow in the near future. The new product line from Mercedes-AMG has allowed us to make true sports car technology and the fascination of motorsports more accessible", says Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. "Every vehicle from Affalterbach honours the brand promise of Driving Performance."
The new AMG sports models display impressive product substance and honour the promise of sports performance with a higher output class, standard all-wheel drive and also sophisticated chassis solutions. The DYNAMIC SELECT variable dynamic control system assigns fundamentally different characteristics to the five transmission modes of INDIVIDUAL, COMFORT, SLIPPERY, SPORT and SPORT+, which the driver is able to select using a rotary control on the centre console. The system networks all the control systems, generating different driving experience parameters. The names speak for themselves: SPORT and SPORT+ turn the GLE 450 AMG into a sporty, dynamic vehicle with pronounced longitudinal and lateral dynamics. COMFORT is the opposite end of the spectrum. Here the emphasis is on the feel-good parameters so typical of classic Mercedes-Benz saloon cars, for relaxed, effortless cruising with the greatest possible energy efficiency. SLIPPERY optimises the handling on surfaces with low friction coefficients such as snow or ice. In addition, INDIVIDUAL mode enables the driver to programme and store personal preferences in the individual control strategies, regardless of the engine variant.
In the GLE 450 AMG, DYNAMIC SELECT not only modulates the "hard skills" such as the chassis and suspension, steering or powertrain. It is also possible to experience the selected mode more intensively on an emotional level because various "soft skills" such as the engine sound, instruments or dynamic control of the driving lights also vary. To this end, the nature of the various displays on the COMAND screen and in the cockpit changes according to the selected transmission mode. At the same time, the active light function of the all-LED headlamps responds more spontaneously and the engine produces the whole range of sounds from sporty and dominant to poised and reticent: if the driver selects COMFORT mode, the displays take on lesser importance and, like the engine, the dial instruments such as the rev counter show a relaxed response to the drivers commands. In combination with the comfort-oriented control of the powertrain and suspension, the result is a feel-good ambience at the level of a saloon. The engine sound is reduced to a pleasant timbre, and the feedback from the road surface and surroundings is considerably quieter in the interior.
Things are very different when SPORT+ mode is selected. The character changes immediately, the gear changes performed by the 9G-TRONIC are acoustically accentuated, especially when downshifting with the double-declutch function, and the cockpit instruments respond faster and more “sharply". The large central display visualises the longitudinal and lateral acceleration plus the steering angle with a photo-realistic motorsports graphic. The engine sound is powerful and acoustically underscores the sports mode. This setting removes any doubt: the GLE Coupé is a lively sports model of the highest order, and treats its occupants to a compelling world of experience.
A perfect combination: 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive and 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission In the new GLE Coupé, the developers were able to show the possibilities of the new 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission in an all-wheel drive coupé with a longitudinal drive configuration. Depending on the mode selected for the DYNAMIC SELECT variable dynamic handling control system, the 9G-TRONIC impresses with great agility and responsiveness or poised serenity. The potential of the new transmission is exploited to the full. It offers an impressively high shift speed and perfect transitions for energetic sprinting as well as with gentle, barely perceptible gear changes for enjoyable cruising.
4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive always goes hand in hand with safe, harmonious and sporty handling. The GLE 350 d and GLE 400 models feature even torque distribution of 50:50 between the front and rear axles. In the particularly sporty GLE 450 AMG Coupé, this configuration is modified in preference of even greater agility and more pronounced dynamics around the car’s vertical axis, increasing the thirst for cornering. The drive is split in a ratio of 40:60 here. The DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes SPORT and SPORT+ deliver superior longitudinal agility and lateral dynamics – specifically as a result of the perfect interplay between the modified driving dynamics control systems ASR, ESP® with Curve Dynamic Assist, the electronic traction system 4ETS and the brake control system ADAPTIVE BRAKE.
Stability pact: AIRMATIC with ADS Plus, Sports Direct-Steer and ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM
In addition to the ground-breaking powertrain configuration, the newly designed AIRMATIC air suspension – available for the first time with the continuously variable damping system ADS Plus – guarantees extremely stable driving. The damping system changes its area of emphasis depending on the preselected DYNAMIC SELECT mode. SPORT+ focuses on the greatest possible lateral dynamics with the best possible ride comfort. Conversely, COMFORT mode enables maximum ride comfort with the best possible dynamics.
The current operating conditions are detected via a steering angle sensor, four turning angle sensors and the driving speed from the ESP® signal and the brake pedal switch. The control unit uses these signals for infinitely variable adjustment of the current damping force required for each individual wheel.
The ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM with active roll stabilisation is also part of the special sports systems that are activated when the driver selects SPORT or SPORT+. At the same time, the active anti-roll bars on the front and rear axles raise the comfort to saloon level and compensate for even heavy, one-sided excitation – for example when driving over potholes. In combination with the newly configured, degressive Sports Direct-Steer system, whose steering ratio is very direct at 17.4:1, and the compact sports steering wheel, the handling is outstanding in all operating conditions – whether manoeuvring in the city, at high speeds on the motorway, or with a swift style of driving on winding mountain passes.
The GLE 350 d 4MATIC and GLE 400 4MATIC models offer the AGILITY CONTROL steel suspension as standard with a amplitude-selective damping system. AIRMATIC air suspension is also optionally available with ADS Plus here.
Wide range of output from 190 kW (258 hp) to 270 kW (367 hp)
Alongside the appealing design, the exceptional suspension and drive technology, and also the assistance systems familiar from the C, E and S-Class, the GLE Coupé is also equipped with numerous standard or optional equipment details and packages that further enrich the GLE Coupé experience.
The GLE 350 d 4MATIC diesel model develops 190 kW (258 hp) and offers maximum torque of 620 Nm from 1600 rpm. The GLE 400 4MATIC petrol model is fitted with the new direct-injection V6 biturbo engine rated at 245 kW (333 hp) and 480 Nm from 1400 rpm. The impressive presence of both models is underlined by 50.8 cm (20-inch) 10-spoke light-alloy wheels with 275/50 R 20 tyres. For those in search of something more sporty, 53.3 cm (21-inch) or 55.9 cm (22-inch) light-alloy wheels with mixed-size tyres can be ordered, although the latter are only available in conjunction with the AIRMATIC ADS Plus air suspension. The chrome-effect shoulderline trim strips and the simulated underguards at the front and rear lend the coupé additional exclusiveness alongside the twin-pipe exhaust system with chrome-plated tailpipe trim. Green-tinted, heat-insulating glass reduces the glare of the sun in the summer, and LED technology features in the headlamps, daytime driving lights, rear lights and third brake light.
The DYNAMIC SELECT dynamic handling control system, the EASY-PACK tailgate with power opening and closing, and the reversing camera with dynamic guide lines in the display are standard features. Additional active handling safety is provided by ESP® Curve Dynamic Assist and Crosswind Assist, as well as COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS. The GLS Coupé is also equipped as standard with the brake system BAS Plus, optionally available with Cross-Traffic Assist.
The GLE 450 AMG is a particularly sporty choice. The V6 biturbo engine with an output of 270 kW (367 hp) and 520 Nm from 1400 rpm delivers performance akin to a sports car. The DYNAMIC SELECT transmission mode Sport+ is always available in the top-of-the-range model.
The standard equipment here is upgraded with features such as special AMG bodystyling, which includes a specific front and rear apron, a rear spoiler lip painted in the vehicle colour and 53.3 cm (21-inch) AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels with tyres of size 275/45 R 21 (front) and 315/40 R 21 (rear). Optionally available here are 55.9 cm (22-inch) AMG 5-spoke light-alloy wheels – also with mixed-size tyres. Excellent traction levels are guaranteed by the impressive tyres of size 285/40 R 22 (front) and 325/35 R 22 (rear). The standard scope of equipment here includes the AIRMATIC package including air suspension and infinitely variable adaptive damping system (ADS Plus) with level control and automatic lowering function at higher speeds, which is optionally available for all models.
Successful design synthesis of Coupé and SUV elements
Sensuality and clarity are the two poles that have determined the design idiom of the Mercedes-Benz brand for almost 130 years and have their origin in the nature of the two inventors of the automobile, Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler: Benz was more rationally oriented in his behaviour, whereas Daimler was driven more by his passion. The new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé demonstrates almost ideally how this bridge between intelligence and emotion, between tradition and modernity, blends into an attractive symbiosis.
The GLE Coupé not only skilfully embodies the firmly embedded principles of Mercedes-Benz design, but also focuses on the essential features of two entirely different automobile genres. On the one hand, the youngest member of the GLE family bears the decisive, essential stylistic feature of all modern Mercedes-Benz coupés: it combines sheer sportiness with a high-level aesthetic and sensual demand for modern luxury. At the same time, however, elements of the classic SUV are recognisable. With muscular wings, large wheel arches, tyres of up to 55.9 cm (22 inches) and also the high belt line and the generous ground clearance, this model takes the perception of a large, four-door coupé to the next level.
The extreme proportions with superior aesthetics of the new GLE Coupé have emerged from this stylistic gene pool. This is particularly due to the extremely exciting relationship between the low greenhouse and striking body; the silhouette signals dynamism and agility. The upright sports grille with single louvre, framed by three-dimensionally designed all-LED headlamps, is the major feature of the front end with its short, stylish overhang. The forward-sloping bonnet with its typical Mercedes power domes underscores the membership of the GLE Coupé in the line-up of particularly sporty Mercedes-Benz models. A discreet reference to the SUV genes of the vehicle is provided by the harmoniously integrated, illuminated running boards, a typical feature of classic SUVs or off-roaders and available as an option.
The coupé-like nature is also emphasised by the design of the rear end with its obvious elements of the design line first presented with the S-Class Coupé. The styling characteristics of this include the slim band of rear lights with their three-dimensional look, the wide chrome insert fitted above and the registration plate now incorporated into the rear bumper. Another feature that has for generations distinguished the large coupé models from Mercedes-Benz is the typical shape of the rear window which is rounded off at the top. A discreet SUV reference is made by the chrome-plated underride guard in the front and rear, here with the integrated twin tailpipe trim elements of the exhaust system.
The attractive sports seats and the compact sports steering wheel, as well as the infotainment elements familiar from the C, E and S-Class initially catch your eye in the interior. The information display, which is not entirely free-standing but partially integrated into the instrument panel, attracts attention and is fitted in an optimum ergonomic position. The centre air vents, with a high-grade silver shadow frame similar to the outer vents, are positioned next to the display. The head unit has the same appearance to underline the homogeneity of the interior. The centre console houses the COMAND Controller with the touchpad fitted above in an optimum ergonomic position. The equipment and appointments in ARTICO man-made leather and the trim elements in light longitudinal-grain aluminium are also impressive. Good infotainment is guaranteed by the Audio 20 CD system with eight loudspeakers and the Remote Online communication module for the use of the Mercedes connect me services in Europe (may vary from country to country).
The interior of the GLE 450 AMG is an impressive sight with AMG sports seats and the black nappa leather AMG sports steering wheel in 3-spoke design as well as the trim elements in light longitudinal-grain aluminium and the sports pedals in brushed stainless steel with rubber studs. AMG carbon-fibre trim and piano lacquer enhance the appearance of the interior as an additional option.
Attractive equipment packages and individual options
Popular equipment details are also combined in attractive packages for the GLE Coupé. The Driving Assistance package Plus includes DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and Stop&Go Pilot, PRE-SAFE® Brake with pedestrian detection, BAS PLUS with Cross-Traffic Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and PRE-SAFE® PLUS. The Parking package with 360° camera and Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC guarantees an excellent overview and problem-free manoeuvring into and out of parking spaces. Night-time vision is improved by the LED Intelligent Light System which is a standard feature on all models; adverse weather conditions with impaired view are defused by MAGIC VISION CONTROL – the heated, adaptive windscreen wiper system.
The extremely large interior for a coupé provides space for up to five people. The rear seat bench in the GLE Coupé is even the widest in its class. Drivers who order the optional large panoramic glass roof are rewarded with an even greater feeling of spaciousness for all the passengers. With a maximum of 1650 litres, the coupé also offers the largest luggage compartment in its class and just happens to hold the world record for luggage compartments in coupés.
the first time in this segment, Mercedes-Benz is offering a fully electric extendable and retractable trailer coupling, which also includes ESP® trailer stabilisation. The towing capacity of the GLE Coupé is up to 3500 kg (braked).
As an option, the latest generation of COMAND Online offers perfect infotainment with a 20.3 cm (8-inch) TFT display and intuitive touchpad. The system also includes a DVD player and Traffic Sign Assist with traffic sign recognition including wrong-way warning function. If required, the customer can equip COMAND Online with the 6-disc DVD changer, Rear Seat Entertainment System with remote control, TV receiver or Bang & Olufsen Sound AMG sound system.
Well worth a look: colour and material combinations for the GLE Coupé
There are almost limitless possibilities when it comes to customisation of the GLE Coupé – and the equipment packages again play an important role. For instance, customers can give their GLE Coupé an especially sporty look with the AMG Line Exterior, including the AMG front and rear apron and the 53.3 cm (21-inch) AMG light-alloy wheels. Those who like things even more exclusive can combine this feature with the Night package, in which the louvre in the radiator grille and the exterior mirror housings are in high-gloss black, for example. At the same time, the wide selection of solid and metallic paints and the almost limitless possibilities for interior design increase the potential for individual customisation. A total of 11 paint finishes are available, of which seven are metallic colours and two are special paint finishes with special-effect pigments in designo diamond white or designo hyacinth red metallic.
The interior radiates modern luxury and can be given a design ranging from ambitious and sporty to classic and elegant, depending on personal taste. The scope here ranges from single-tone black interior appointments to various combinations in which black is used with ginger beige, crystal grey, saddle brown or porcelain. The interior of the GLE Coupé is particularly impressive in two-tone designo exclusive nappa leather in porcelain/black. The AMG Line Interior transfers the sporty look to the interior with features such as AMG sports seats, AMG sports steering wheel, nappa leather appointments and aluminium sports pedals. The designo Exclusive package is packed full of luxury: heated comfort seats with diamond-pattern stitching, instrument panel and door panelling in designo leather and the black DINAMICA roof liner provide for even more exclusive travel.
Depending on personal preference, the trim elements shine in light longitudinal-grain aluminium, brown open-pore ash wood, brown eucalyptus wood, dark-graphite poplar wood or black AMG carbon fibre/piano lacquer.
Connect four
The Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC success story began in 1985. The all-wheel drive presented in an E-Class was the first automatically controlled drive system in a premium vehicle. The customer was able to choose between six different models. Nowadays, around 30 years later, the portfolio of passenger cars with all-wheel drive has grown to include more than 70 models in 18 model series. From the A to the G-Class, each model receives a tailored 4MATIC solution – to match each different vehicle character.
The AMG sports models such as the GLE 450 AMG receive a performance-oriented 4MATIC drive which sends the drive torque more towards the rear axle – unlike in the standard model. This distinctly rear-biased power distribution provides for the signature AMG high driving dynamics and superlative driving enjoyment.
"G" to the fore: the new SUV nomenclature
The premiere of the GLE Coupé restructures the successful SUV range from Mercedes-Benz. The system centres around the five core model series, A, B, C, E and S, which will continue to be used to provide orientation for our customers. In the case of the model designations for the SUVs, in a tribute to the legendary G-Class, all SUV models will in future have the first two letters "GL" in their name. The "G" here denotes the cars lineage. The "L" is a letter that appears time and time again over the history of Mercedes-Benz: it is a linking letter that makes the model designations easier to remember and easier to pronounce; one that is familiar from the legendary SL, for example, or from the more recent CLS and CLA. It is followed by the third letter, which indicates the relationship to the relevant core model series.
In specific terms:
- GLA: SUV in the A-Class segment
- GLC: SUV in the C-Class segment; formerly GLK
- GLE: SUV in the E-Class segment; formerly M-Class
- GLE Coupé: SUV in the E-Class Coupé segment
- GLS: SUV in the S-Class segment; formerly GL
- G: unchanged
The different types of engine are indicated by a lower-case letter.
