Ford Figo Sedan 2015 Overview
Ford India presented the all-new Ford Figo Concept sedan at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, which in-turn is based on the Ford Ka Concept that was also seen at the same automotive convention in February 2014. The global debut of this sub-4-metre sedan officially marks Ford’s entry into the compact sedan segment. The new sedan will be manufactured at the company’s upcoming facility in Sanand in Gujarat.

Design wise, the Figo Concept sedan carries the company’s newest global design philosophy with its trapezoidal grille, blacked out headlamps and bold styling elements, which seems to mimic the front fascia of the Aston Martin. The model also features electrically adjustable ORVMs, which are flexible and don’t break if bumped by another car or a motorcyclist.

On the inside, expect the Figo sedan to come with standard features such as satellite navigation, an updated infotainment system and the new SYNC technology. Ford claims that its upcoming Figo sedan will also boast of few segment-first safety features and class leading interior space.

The Figo Concept sedan when pushed down the production line is expected to be powered by the same set engines that currently serve the EcoSport SUV - a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel powerplant. The engines will come mated to a 5-Speed manual gearbox as well as a 5-Speed automatic transmission.
Once launched in India, the Figo sedan will replace the current Ford Classic and will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and the upcoming Tata Zest.

Ford Figo Hatchback 2015 Overview
Ford India is prepping an all-new model of its flagship, Figo hatchback. This new model was recently previewed in India as the Ford Ka Concept at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show. Internally known as the B562 the new Figo / Ka will be rolled out from Ford’s upcoming facility in Sanand, Gujarat by the end of 2014 or early 2015.

The all-new Figo hatchback will come with an updated styling based on Ford’s global design language with the refreshed hexagonal grille in the front - that looks similar to the one seen on Aston Martins. The new Figo hatchback / Ka underpins the Mk5 Fiesta platform and features design cues like the LED headlamps, bumpers and others with the Ford Mondeo and the Focus. The roofline headed towards the trunk lid with pronounced lines creates a sense of dynamism. The rear end of the car features a spoiler and large tail lamps.

We expect the new Figo to be powered by the 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. These engines currently power the new Fiesta and the EcoSport SUV in the Indian market. Both engines will come mated to a 5-Speed manual transmission. Automatic gearbox could also be offered in the top-end variants.
Once launched in India, the new car will either replace the current Figo hatchback in the market as the new Figo for the model year 2015, or Ford could simply, launch the new car with the Ka name and slot it above the current Figo.
We will know more about Ford’s decision and plans in the coming months.

Ford Figo Concept Sedan Preview
The Ford Figo Concept is Ford’s new global concept that was unveiled just before Delhi Auto Expo 2014. Unlike the current Figo, it is a compact sedan that will compete with the likes of the Honda Amaze, Suzuki Dzire and the Tata Zest. It will be less than four metres in length, but the concept car has good proportions. Elements like the headlamps, tail lamps, fog lamps, wheels and tyres will not make it as is to production because of the cost target involved. Things like the rear disc brakes will also not make it to production.
The Figo Concept aligns itself with Ford’s “One Ford” philosophy, which means it now looks a lot like the new Mondeo and Taurus. It is a bold new grille, and the headlamps complement the design nicely. The silhouette is pretty much the same as most of the other compact sedans, but the rear is slightly disappointing. Unlike most other cars from the segment, it doesn’t put the rear number plate on the bootlid, instead opting for a low mount on the bumper. This leaves the rear with a look that is a little too vertical despite the horizontal creases that try to alleviate the visual height.
The interior of the car wasn’t developed at the time of the unveiling, but we expect it to carry forward lessons from the Figo and the EcoSport. It should be a modern, futuristic interior with a quantum leap forward in connectivity – it will support a lot more apps, and maybe even run apps on your smartphone. At the same time we expect it to share parts from the EcoSport to keep costs down – the Classic will probably be the last model with hydraulic steering assist from the Blue Oval, provided the current Figo hatch is discontinued.
Ford hasn’t committed to a launch date beyond an enigmatic “soon”, so we expect it to be production-ready within a year’s time.
