When you think of green cars, the usual picture is probably the environmentally friendly commuter pod that keeps you on the right side of the equation karma. While the 2012 Lexus LS 600h L is a hybrid vehicle, should not be considered green - unless you count the green in your wallet that it will drain, ie. With a MSRP of around $ 40,000 more than the conventional LS 460 L and fuel economy gains only 1 mpg EPA combined, it would take the average driver nearly 300 years to cover the cost of purchase plus the fuel savings. 

In defense of Lexus, the LS 600h L position as the car is able to deliver performance comparable to the V12-powered luxury sedan while returning fuel economy as the V8-powered cars. But in Edmunds testing, this hybrid LS accelerate slower than that not only rivals but also 12-cylinder conventional LS V8. 

Of course, the LS 600h L provides the inner silence and crypt-tranquil luxury Lexus always recorded. But overall, we suggest looking into some of the other vehicles competing in the market. Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid, Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec diesel and Porsche Panamera Hybrid all return better gas mileage at a cheaper MSRP. To a lesser degree, the BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid may be interesting as well. In the end, the Lexus LS 600h L may first prestige hybrid sedan powered, but times have changed and are no longer the best.
